Kaufman Retrograde
(3PT1.0) KAUFMAN RETROGRADE
The Kaufman Retrograde is a unique tactic that can only be employed by the Federation. It works on the basis that the Federation's heavy weapon, the Photon, is itself unique in that it does not lose power with range.

(3PT1.1) USE IN APPROACH BATTLES
(3PT1.11) When the Federation player is the defending player they may choose to use the Kaufman Retrograde.

(3PT1.12) The Federation player can choose to use either (3PT1.121) or (3PT1.122). The Federation player may select only one option for each battle. He can change options between battles. In no case can the Federation player choose to use both options in the same battle.

(3PT1.121) The Federation player can choose to add  +1 to his combat die rolls.

(3PT1.122) The Federation player can choose 2 Directed Damage (302.5) shots in each battle.

(3PT1.14) The provisions of (308.3) are modified to allow the opposing player to advance to the base and/or planet after two approach battles. This reflects that the Federation Player is trading space for increased battle tactics.

(3PT1.15) Should the Federation Player choose the Kaufman Retrograde, the attacking player has one more option to withdraw with no battle.

(3PT1.1) USE IN APPROACH BATTLES
(3PT1.21) In a Pursuit Battle (307.0) where the Federation player has chosen to use the Kaufman Retrograde the pursuing player has the option of choosing to fight a second battle.
