Hexes and Planets and how they are shown on the maps
Maps
To make it possible for players to follow along without the use of notes a number of changes to the full color map published in DF&E have been made. The basic colors of the map Light Gray for the Coalition (Klingons, Lyrans, and Romulans) and a Light Blue for the Alliance (Federation, Kzintis, Hydrans and Gorns) were left the same as were the Gold for the Neutral Zones, and the Salmon for the Armed Neutrals (WYN, Tholians and ISC). Or at least the same color to this color blind author.

The first change is that all the hex numbers have a box around them and are done in the same colors as the counters. Exception, the Federation background color is lighter to make the hex numbers easier to read. On the Coalition side these colors are; the Klingons are White on Black, the Lyrans are Green on Yellow and the Romulans are Black on Red. On the Alliance side the Hydrans are Green on White, the Kzintis are Black on White, the Federation is Black on Blue, and the Gorns are Red on White. Neutral Zone hexes are Brown on Gold. For the armed neutrals, (WYN, Tholians, and the ISC) stay the same.

The second change is that captured hexes have the color changed from the original color to the capturing sides color, and the letter of the capturing race in a small rectrangle is placed on the left side of the hex. Example the Klingons capture a Kzinti hex and the hex color is changed from light blue to light grey. In addition a small box showing the controlling race is placed in the hex. These changes were made to help track who originally owned a hex and who is controlling it now. See examples below.

Planets
The third change is that Planets are shown as two difference sizes, large for Major, small for Minor, (as is done on the DF&E Maps, but are the same color as that races counters and have the letter of the race in the middle. Devestated planets are shown as diamonds. See examples below.

Off-map Exploration/Survey Ares
The fourth change is the off-map exploration zones for each race/empire now show the current number of providences, and the running total of points toward a new province. In addition there is a counter labeled Exp Fleet, which links you to a page showing what ships are currently in that races/empires Exploration Fleet. See examples below.
